A group of Warren County farmers decided that they needed fire insurance for themselves and their neighbors. They organized the Private Benevolent Association #2 of Warren County in 1875. A year before this the Private Benevolent Assocation #1 of Warren County was organized in the Holstein area. In those early days the big insurance companies did not want to write insurance for the farms.
Since the original organization of the Mutual there has been name changes and mergers with other mutuals. All of these changes have made the Mutual stronger and able to offer more products. The Mutual now covers homes, personal property, farms and rental dwellings.
The first farm mutual insurance group to organize in Missouri was in Hermann in 1859. The German immigrants of that area could not secure insurance from the big Eastern Companies.
